In this episode, I chat with Greg Smith, Founder and CEO of Thinkific, a software platform that makes it easy to create, market and sell online courses.
I love his story of how he moved from the legal field to creating online courses. Greg was working as a corporate lawyer for one of the largest law firms in the country when he launched an online course as a side project.
Revenues from his course soon surpassed his salary as a lawyer, and Greg jumped into online education full time.
Greg had a blog that was focused on LSATs and he created a mini course on the site and people loved it. Then, he played with it for a little bit, went to law school. He worked as an attorney for several years and eventually entered the online education arena full-time.
How can small to mid-size businesses use online courses?
Figure out what you are passionate about. Then create courses around it. Your goal is to sell courses for revenue. For consulting businesses, you can use them to generate leads and give them away for email addresses and market to them. Educate existing customers and educate them to be power users and do other things that are related to them.
An online course is a great revenue stream.
Here’s something else that’s great about Thinkific:
They have 55% women on their leadership team which I find amazing. I believe in women empowerment, teaching women to operate in their zones of brilliance, make things happen and fearlessly take up leadership positions. Also, $100m+ has been earned on the Thinkific platform.
